When going out with large groups of people, we all noticed how complicated it was to settle a bill. With various payment methods and many reminders later, the entire process of getting all your money back from one meal with friends months ago can be insanely tedious.

To better understand potential users of Interac Settle, we conducted 6 interviews with other interns in the same cohort.


Our team focused on specific questions that would allow us to better understand user needs. We identified three main metrics that would guide our research and help us gather valuable insights.

To understand how users generally send money between each other and how they utilize the E-transfer Request capabilities.

We don't want to be aggressive

Users want a way to remind people to pay without coming off as aggressive or annoying.

We're more chill with close friends and family

Most people do not keep tabs close friends and/or family. Tabs are kept with large groups and acquaintances.

With the help of our research and insights, we were able to craft a user persona to better understand the main users of Interac Settle after learning about user needs and pain points. We were able to better empathize with our user group by referring to this persona while starting our designing process.

I kicked off the design process by thinking about the user flow of Interac Settle.


With the insights and conclusions gathered from the user interviews that we conducted, we created a user flow chart. Creating a user flow chart is extremely beneficial as designers are able to visualize what each flow and screen may look like, while making improvements as we see fit.
